CEAN believes that
• Networking is an essential skill for all business people, but especially for entrepreneurs.
• The strong association between the entrepreneur as a person and his or her business demands that entrepreneurs get out into the world and create and maintain business relationships.
• Networking builds social capital for entrepreneurs
• Creating channels to share business know-how is critical to helping more business owners succeed.
• Sharing business knowledge among entrepreneurs contributes to the stability and growth of their businesses, and encourages innovation and resourcefulness.

NOLLYWOOD! - Social Media Week Lagos

NOLLYWOOD! The Power of Being Social

This was my favorite Social Media Week Lagos event because I had the opportunity to meet  Best of Nollywood BON Awards CEO Seun Oloketuy , Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka plus Nigerian superstar bloggers Linda Ikeji and Olori Supergal.

I began watching Nollywood movies on irokotv on youtube to learn about Nigerian culture before my trip to Lagos for Social Media Week Lagos.

My French professor taught me the best way to learn another culture is through the appreciation of cinema. We regularly discussed French Cinema as part of learning French Language and Culture.

The same concept applies to learning Nigerian Languages (Pidgin English and Yoruba) as well as Nigerian Culture. So if you are traveling to Nigeria for business, I suggest watching Nollywood films on irokotv.com as preparation for developing business relationships.

Mercy Johnson is one of my favorite Nollywood actresses.

Check out a Nollywood playlist of some movies that I have enjoyed watching below.

Have you checked out Nollywood  movies?

Nigerian Fast Food is Heathy Food

The best of travel part of travel for me is trying new foods.
When I first arrived in Lagos, Nigeria my friend +tope akinmade took me to Tastee Fried Chicken. My driver Mustapha and I would go there every morning like many Lagosians to pick up breakfast and lunch. Even though the food is fried, it is still closer to a home-cooked meal than traditional American fast food. Check out the Tastee Fried Chicken website. Does this look like Popeye's or McDonald's to you?

I enjoyed jollof rice, fried rice, and red rice with chicken or Crocker fish. I was really missing vegetables until I found this Chicken Salad at Tastee Fried Chicken.
It consist of shredded cabbage, carrots, corn, tomatoes, eggs, lettuce and diced chicken. It is delicious.

I think that Nigerian fast food is very healthy despite the fried foods, it is much fresher than American fast foods. The drink of choice is juice instead of sodas.

What are your favorite Nigerian fast foods?

Flight Attendant Travel Tip

SkychiTravels with Passport and Travel Vision Board

I finally applied for and was approved for Global Entry, the best travel secret ever. For $100 for five years you have access to domestic and international security processing at lighting speed. You can cut your wait in the security line to just a few minutes.

Global Entry allow travelers to use the kiosks with their passports  to clear customs and immigrants quickly on international arrivals into the United States.

Global Entry also includes NEXUS for entry into Canada and SENTRI for entry into Mexico.

If one travels within the United States or domestically, it adds the benefit of TSA-Pre Clear which means you can go the head of the line.

As a crew member, I am accustomed to getting through security quickly. However, for person travel it can be frustrating to wait in long lines.

So, I appreciate the benefits of the Global Entry Program. One needs to complete the application and pay the fee online. Then schedule an interview. During the interview, the customs border officer completes a background check, takes a photo, and fingerprints you. Once approved you receive your TSA Pre- Clear card with 7 - 10 days. When traveling domestically you are able to use the speedy kiosk instead of standing in line.

This Global Entry makes travel easy breezy. This eliminates the frustration of the long security lines. The Global Entry fee of $100 includes the Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and TSA Pre-Clear is a great travel value.

African Poverty Poster Child Myth Debunked

African  Children

Nigeria is the size of Texas with a populations of 150 million people. Lagos has a 22 million people and is the most highly populated city in the country of Nigeria, West Africa.

I recently has a conversation with an African-American woman named Eva who is living in Nigeria for business. She pointed out to me that there are no flies, no crying children like the media portrays them in the American media.

The school children in this fishing village do not have flies, tears nor are they naked.

What do you think about the way the American media depicts the poor, crying, naked, fly-infested African Poverty Poster Child?
